Congressman Mark Kennedy visits Minnesota Wire & Cable Co.
St. Paul, MN, 05/16/06 – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today hosted a “Meet & Greet” at Minnesota Wire & Cable Co. (MWCC) for Congressman Mark Kennedy, Minnesota’s 6th District Republican who is running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Mark Dayton this fall. The U.S. Chamber has endorsed Congressman Kennedy’s campaign for the Senate, and took this opportunity to showcase Minnesota Wire & Cable as a leading medical technology company that has benefited from capital investment tax credit initiatives that Kennedy champions.
The morning event included 20 business and chamber of commerce leaders from the Twin Cities who were eager to hear Congressman Kennedy’s views on the role the U.S. Congress can play in promoting businesses and job growth.
The hour-long “roundtable” session included a brief on MWCC’s recent successes in the medical and defense markets by Chairman & CEO Paul J. Wagner, remarks by Congressman Kennedy, and numerous questions from the business leaders regarding Kennedy’s senate campaign, and his views on business. “I want to drive an environment in this country that supports innovation and a level playing field for businesses. That means things like less intrusion by government, and more tax incentives that will encourage innovation and competition,” said Kennedy.
Following the roundtable discussion, the attendees received a brief tour of MWCC’s St. Paul headquarters, where they were able to see first-hand robotic machinery acquired thanks to favorable tax policies, including accelerated depreciation on capital equipment. These additions to the company’s manufacturing capabilities, as well as heavy investment in design, development and test & measurement in the past two years, are helping to keep MWCC competitive against increasing foreign manufacturing competitions, such as China while continuing to grow and hire additional employees.
