Minnesota Wire & Cable Co.’s Defense Division Has Record Day
St. Paul, MN, 08/27/07 – Minnesota Wire & Cable Co. (MWCC) last week received product orders and grant awards totaling nearly $10 million in one day, a record for the St. Paul based custom manufacturer that currently has $20 million in annual revenue.
The orders and pre-award notifications for MWCC’s Minnesota Defense division included: $7.4 million from the Department of the Navy’s SPAWAR acquisition command for the MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle intercom system; $1.2 million for RACAL Acoustics’ contribution to the MRAP; a $750,000 federal research grant for fatigue resistant wire in airborne applications; and $600,000 from Smart Fuel Cell, Inc. for a battery extender using fuel cell technology to charge batteries on a wearable system.
The news comes on the heels of MWCC’s successful completion of its $1.5 million Future Force Warrior program, ongoing federal research on programs like Smart Connector for wire diagnostics, stretchy wire for body-borne applications and recent custom medical market contributions in emerging technology such as fMRI (functional MRI) and lung biopsy devices. These initiatives are illustrative of the company’s dedicated, longterm approach to expand its manufacturing capabilities to provide for customers that are more technology driven in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Still a custom manufacturer of wire and cable, MWCC is rapidly emerging as a higher-end systems integrator for interconnect solutions.
